Elodie Underbridge and August Appleby are two college students from Falsewater Valley, South Dakota, who have been almost inseparable since childhood. When Elodie returns from summer camp, and the two spend time together again, all seems well until August receives some unsettling news from whom she believes is her best friend. In reality, a demon by the name of Roh has taken Elodie’s form and travelled to Earth to use August in his sinister plans.
So, where is Elodie? She’s stuck in the other world—a world already feeling the effects of demonic machinations. Now, the two friends must overcome challenges, including their own limitations, to save not just their world but also the unfamiliar realm of Basinhelm. Will they emerge from the shadows as heroes, or will they succumb to the forces of darkness that seek to tear them apart?

Six months have transpired since the fateful day that turned August and Elodie’s worlds upside down, and the girls are struggling to settle into their new realities. Realising it’s more challenging to reconstruct an entire broken world than she thought, Elodie, exhausted from her measures, is struggling to rebuild Basinhelm, her efforts worsened by the increasing presence of a group of Roh’s loyalists.
Meanwhile, on Earth, August starts receiving unexpected gifts from an unknown benefactor—could an old adversary have made a return to torment her further? Additionally, on a field trip to a nearby lake, she notices the surrounding vegetation is decaying at an alarming rate. Sensing something is awry, August, with the help of a past flame, digs deeper into what could be causing the devastation, which is spreading rapidly. Shocked at what they find, August and Elodie come face to face with the reality that they must take drastic measures to stop the two worlds from irrevocable destruction.
